Andrew Goodwin's theory

Andrew Goodwin has identified a number of key features in music videos. They are:
- A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.
- A relationship between the music and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music.
- Genre-related style and iconography present.
- Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist.
- Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females.
- Intertextual references to other media texts may be present.

Brand and similar artists

Here's the video of Example and Ed Sheeran. This seems like the start of Ed Sheeran becoming a likeable character from seeming so close to Example. The song became quite popular for the teenager age group, although it wasn't an actual song.

Azealia Banks is a prime example for us. She's in our genre of music, and has a simple use of locations for her video. She doesn't use a male gaze to attract her audience, she uses her choice of clothing to promote her genre, and make her brand seem quite quirky. Similar to Banks, we used outfits and locations to get across our point to our audience rather than use a Male gaze to attract a male audience.

Band Name

So Millie and I have come up with band name 'Bacci and Filter'. Not only because the lyrics are from the actual song but we believe the whole brand and genre are suited with the name.
This is a screen shot of Frank Ocean's video for 'Novocane'.
The song is simply about him numbing pain,
and his use of smoke allows his audience to feel
they can relate to him through 'numbing'
the pain.

As our genre is the hip-hop/pop mix it suits and is quite a quirky name. The reference of cigarettes is used in a strange 'cool' way in today's music. The majority of our target audience use smoking to lose themselves and feel good in some way, which is also what we hope our artist will bring to our audience but obviously just by our music.

On the other hand we used this as you always need the bacci with the filter. For this song to work, you need the rapper and the singer, as well as the serious and the humorous which we both have. It all fits together for a nice modern band name.
This is a screen shot of Snoop-Dogg's album
cover. Here the smoke from his mouth is
clearly the main focus of the advert.
To promote himself to look 'cool' to his
audience. Throughout his video's he
uses a male gaze and lyrics of explicit nature
to also appeal to his audience, whereas we
are using smoking without trying to create
it in an explicit nature.
Here Arctic Monkey's; an English successful
band use smoking on their front cover.
This is used all for image which also proves how
smoking is quite a focus on the youths of today.

All three artists are using smoking
to appeal to the same audience
that are hoping to attract. Through
using the idea of smoking, we're
 conforming to other artist's, as
we're all competing for the same
audience to buy in to our brand.
Both Snoop Dogg and Arctic
Monkeys use a stage name rather
than their real name, to again create
a 'cool' image to their target audience
in which we have done to
promote ourselves.

Brand Images

All of these images give me some
inspiration for our music video.
I really love the idea of some sort of face paint.
As our idea is more of a story in a story,
which is Millie and I being a band duo
who are trying to make it, but my character
is not as serious about our career as
Millie's character is, therefore this is
where the facepaint could work,
as it's a quirky childish aspect to the video
 giving good colours.

As much as I dislike Cher Lloyd and her music; I really like the colour sceme to this video. It suits our pop-alternative genre. The colours would be appropriate for us, and it I enjoy the continuation throughout the video of the colours. I wouldn't really think about the use of balloons as it wouldn't really suit our narrative although in this video it does look quite effective.

I like all these pictures as they all have some sort of relevance to us. The colours make me think closely about the type of shots and the colours we could bring in to the video. It's quite an old indie themed collage of photo's which probably doesn't suit us but as our song brings in so many different themes with the indie music and rapping it all can be bought in in to one. The above vintage photo is the type of colours we are looking in to doing our video in. It brings a sense of youth and age in to one video, which could be interpreted in many different ways by our target audience.

I like how this band (OFWGKTA) use a bicycle. It's quite a humourous and quirky prop. It could easily fit our theme and we could get some great shots from it too, which I've already thought about.

Inspirational shots

Whilst watching inception, this shot caught my eye and I thought how we could use something similar which still involved water. I love how the slow motion water blends well.
