RichMix Trip

Many interesting topics were spoken of in the media conference. First half was Pete Fraiser giving top tip's and taking us through the history of music. He ran through a method of analysis for music videos.

Method of analysis by Andrew Goodwin

  • Genre characteristics
  • Visuals relationships with lyrics & music
  • Need to sell artist as a star
  • Voyeurism/looking
  • Intertextuality
I particularly found the history of the music video's quite intriguing. I underestimated the real history of music video's and how far back they actually originated from. The video's from the first music video by Len Lye shows the simplicity although the creativity of the artist, which generated the first music video's.

The birth of MTV in 1981 was also a break through, allowing black artists to start broadcasting video's worldwide. This then led on to Michael Jackson becoming the well known phenomenon that he sitll is today, also rappers like 50 cent, Jay-Z etc, allowing music video's to expand and allow other genre's to broadcast on television worldwide. The video below was the launch of MTV
\
I also look in to an advertisement The difference of advertisements also shows the advance of technology in the 30 years MTV has been broadcasted. The HD camera's to the imaginative idea's to advertise.

Stuart Hall's theory

Stuart Hall developed the concept of audience positioning as a result of examining news reports on industrial strikes; He claimed that media representations established a framework for possible responses - this is like setting an agenda for issues to be raised with audiences.

Oppositional Readings:
 - Audiences reject the way the narrative is constructed, question & challenge the points of view implied.

Negotiated Readings:
- Audiences partially accept the way the narrative is constructed but can see both points of view the dominant and oppositional readings.

Aberrant Readings:
- Is an additional interpretation: where the text is read in a deviant & largely unanticipated manner, the preferred reading not being recognised at all.

Twitter account

Hopefully finishing out storyboard this week, and getting our equipment to start filming.
We'll be filming our target audience in the next couple of weeks in hope to get feedback for our video.

In other news, today we made our very own twitter account, @BacciAndFilter, it's going slow with only 1 follower but it will be an easy way to get 'fans' and keep on track. Our target audience is a big user of twitter, which is obviously a way to get ourselves a fan base. We're following other bands/artists that are an influence to us in hope their tweets can inspire our achievements.
